Julian Wilkins

Julian specialises in intellectual property, entertainment and commercial law matters with a particular interest concerning the brave new world of AI, distributed ledger technology (DLT) such as blockchain, meta verse, crypto, NFTs, smart contracts and decentralised autonomous organisations. He has significant advisory and litigation experience and is using this to develop his practice around the nascent regulation of AI and related technologies, especially in the context of IP, data protection, risk assessment and liability obligations whether statutory, common law or fiduciary.

His IP practice includes copyright, trademarks, patents, design, branding, image, story and format rights, trade secrets, and passing off including the application of IPR to technologies such as blockchain, NFTs and AI.

Commercial law work includes licensing, SaaS, franchise, agency, directors and shareholders, employment agreements.

His work covers wide-ranging sectors including, film, TV, music, photography, publishing, fashion, automotive, renewable energy, gaming, technology and fintech.

Julian is a qualified notary public, CEDR Accredited commercial mediator and in arbitration (Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Arbitration Ireland).

Away from practice, Julian enjoys cooking, listening to music, visiting art and photographic exhibitions, and driving.

Julian has a keen interest in journalism and writing having entered various script competitions’. He was for several years Editor of Independent Television News 1955 Club Newsletter and remains its Editor at Large. Julian founded and edited Blue Pencil magazine devoted to IP issues relevant to the creative industries.
